- Lodore (1835)

It can be said to be autobiographical, as the relationship between Ethel Lodore and Edward Villiers strongly resembles the initial stages of Mary and Percy Shelley's relationship.

- Mathilda (1959)
The novel deals with a father's passionate (incestuous) love for his daughter.
This novel represents Mary's emotional state at the time: she had lost three children and the relationship with her father and her husband were strained. The novel is a melodramatic representation of this period of her life.
Although this short novel was written in the summer of 1819, it was not published until 1959, over a hundred years after Mary's death. It was Mary's wish not to publish the novel, as she probably realised that it was too personal to be published.
